The Old Lawnmower Club will be returning to the Museum on 16 & 17 May.
Anyone with an interest in the development of these invaluable garden assistants will want to pay a visit – 100s of mowers are expected. As well as rare examples on show from club members, the Museum’s own fine collection will be open, with examples showing the history of the lawnmower, including some of the earliest in existence.
The club now boasts more than 500 members around the world, and everyone is invited to visit on Saturday and Sunday to check out the machinery of days past, and see some in action.
Keen gardeners in the 19th century would have used something like this roller mower from our collection. It dates to C.1850 and was invented by Edwin Beard Budding.

The Museum will be open from 10.30am – 4.30pm
